Before 1828, people at that time worshipped in a log cabin at the
confluence of Cowan Creek and Todds Fork.

In 1828 a frame church was built where the church now stands.

In the autumn of 1842, Clarksville Circuit was formed from
Wilmington Circuit with the following churches; Clarksville, Union,
Roachester, Olive Branch, Mt. Pleasant, Morrisville, West Chapel,
Lynchburg, Dodsonville, Westboro, Blanchester, Quin Chapel and
Martinsville. Ebinezor B. Chase was Pastor and Martin Wolfe
Assistant Pastor.

In 1852 Rev. Andrew Murphy started movement towards a new church
circulating a subscription paper.

In 1853 the old church was moved and a new church started.

In 1854 a large portion of work was done under the Pastorate of Rev.
Silas Bennett and Rev. A.P. Dunlap. At this time a pastor and assistant
pastor were listed. The building committee for the church was Rev.
S.S. Ausstin and Rev. T.D. Austin, and George Dunn was the architect.
Isaiah Harris was the treasurer. Jonathan Lawrence sawed and
furnished the timber for the building, costing about $1,500.

June, 1855, the church was dedicated with several guest ministers
present. The church was filled from the pulpit to the door. At this time
there was two preachers each year for the circuit, and it was called a
four-week circuit. Each minister was preaching every four weeks.

In 1876 the Clarksville Circuit was divided by action of the quarterly
conference previous to the annual conference at Oxford, Ohio. In
August 1876 Clarksville Circuit consisted of four churches;
Clarksville, Olive Branch, Spring Hill and Union.

With each challenge we have encountered, we became stronger in our
faith.

We invite you to become a part of the church today and a piece of its
history tomorrow.
OUR HISTORY
Clarksville United Methodist Church is located in the center
of Clarksville, Ohio. It has been said that it is the heartbeat
of the community. We are often described as a very friendly
and warm bunch of people. We strive to serve our
community through many outreach and mission projects
with the guidance of our Wonderful Father. It is through His
Spirit Of Love that we yearn to reach out to our neighbors.
We have opened the Feed My Sheep Food Pantry where we
give out groceries to those in need. We serve with our sister
church at My Father's Kitchen. We reach out to the youth in
the community through Vacation Bible School, Movie Night
on the lawn, Christmas Caroling, Easter Egg Hunts. We have
been involved in volunteer work in Mississippi helping
Katrina victims. Our church is open to Alcoholic
Anonymous every Friday night. Our United Methodist
Women's group has supported numerous charity
organizations. We have learned through all of this wonderful
outreach and missions that you can never outgive God.
Believe me, we have tried. He is so Amazing!

Our congregation averages an attendance of 25-30 on
